Byron Bay Tourism

Byron Bay, located in the northern region of New South Wales, is one of the top tourist destinations in Australia, thanks to its stunning beaches, breathtaking views and laid-back lifestyle. Here are some of the top attractions in and around Byron Bay.

Byron Bay is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. The most popular of them are Main Beach, Wategos Beach and Tallow Beach. Main Beach is located in the heart of town and offers soft sand, gentle waves and stunning views of the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Wategos Beach is a secluded, crescent-shaped beach that is perfect for swimming, while Tallow Beach is a surf-lover’s paradise. All three beaches are patrolled by lifeguards.

Cape Byron Lighthouse
Located on the easternmost point of mainland Australia, the Cape Byron Lighthouse offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding hinterland. Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for breathtaking views, or take a guided tour to learn about the history of the lighthouse.

Byron Bay Markets
Twice a month, the Byron Bay Markets take over the town’s main streets, offering a range of locally made crafts, clothing, jewelry and food. The markets are held on the first Sunday of the month at the Butler Street Reserve, and on the third Sunday of the month at the Byron Bay Community Centre.

Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens
The Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens are located a short drive from Byron Bay in the nearby town of Mullumbimby. The attractions offer a unique experience, with the Crystal Castle featuring the largest amethyst cave in the world, a stunning rose quartz crystal and a range of other crystals. The Shambhala Gardens offer a tranquil sanctuary for visitors to relax and reflect.

Whale Watching
Between June and November, visitors can take a whale watching tour and witness the annual migration of humpback whales along the coast of Byron Bay. The tours offer an unforgettable experience to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures.

Byron Bay Hinterland
The hinterland area surrounding Byron Bay offers a range of natural attractions, including the Minyon Falls, Nightcap National Park and the Border Ranges National Park. Visitors can explore these stunning areas through hiking trails, scenic drives and guided tours.

Farmers' Markets
The Byron Bay Farmers' Markets are held every Thursday morning at the Butler Street Reserve. Visitors can find a range of locally sourced produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables, artisan breads, homemade jams and chutneys, and more.

Byron Bay Surfing
Byron Bay is renowned for its surfing culture, with world-class waves attracting surfers from around the globe. Visitors can take surfing lessons, hire surfboards and wetsuits, or simply watch the surfers take on the waves from the shore.
